The chief executive of Foxtons received a 47 per cent rise in pay and perks despite the estate agent reporting a loss of £1.3 million in 2008, shedding 300 jobs and paying £3.8 million on a court case that it lost.
Michael Brown’s package improved from £397,150 in 2007 to £650,000, while the average salary of the staff fell from £45,653 to £36,091 and the number of employees fell from 1,319 to 1,009.
Operating profits fell 83 per cent to £3.47 million, while turnover declined 30.4 per cent to £75 million, at a time when the housing market was in freefall.
The dividend payout, which stood at £37.5 million in 2007, when profits were £16.5 million, fell to £7.8 million in 2008.
